Qualifications

To qualify for an initial appointment (4-year term) to the office of notary public in the State of Oklahoma, one must:
  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Be a United States citizen.

  • Be a legal resident of Oklahoma; or an out-of-state resident who is employed within Oklahoma.

  • Submit an application to be appointed a notary public, and pay the State appointment fee ($25.00 for new and $20.00 for renewal applicants).

  • Once approved by the secretary of state's office, obtain a surety bond in the amount of $1,000. Available from The American Association of Notaries! File the bond, oath of office and loyaty oath with the Secretary of State and pay the $10.00 state filing fee.
